Thomas Powell, MD, is a physician who specializes in orthopedic surgery. He diagnoses and treats patients at Powell Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a diplomate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has expertise in arthroscopic surgery and special interests in trauma, sports medicine, and adult reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Powell earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1991. He completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1996.
Dr. Powell has served as the chairman of the department of surgery, the credentials committee chairman, and the medical staff president at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He currently serves on the AO/ASIF orthopedic faculty.

A native of Mobile, Alabama, Dr. Powell was a four-year football letterman at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he was first-team All-American his senior year. He enjoys outdoor activities, spending time with his family, and participating in music and mission opportunities through his church.
